I am super excited to start this journey. I've recently become very interested in photography, although I've always been somewhat interested in this hobby I've just started reading some other people's blogs and its peaked my curiosity. I'm a single mom of 2 beautiful girls (you'll see plenty of pictures as I'm learning) and I also work full time for a hydroelectric company. I'm hoping to do some traveling for my job and be able to take some awesome scenic photos along the way :)
So, I've officially ordered my first SLR. I've chosen to go with the Nikon D5100 for various reasons after MUCH research. I hehawed over Canon vs. Nikon for a few weeks and after asking some friends what they prefer I've settled on Nikon. This was my first choice by the way, I've had point and shoot film Nikons and my dad is an avid fan of Nikons and I've heard nothing but good things about them and I've NEVER had anything but great pictures from my point and shoot. I'm also hoping that my dad has some older lenses that he won't mind parting with since he doesn't do much photography anymore (a girl can dream!). I chose the D5100 because I'm on a limited budget and I'm a beginner. I didn't want to overwhelm myself with too many fancy options and details but I wanted a great camera.
I chose to purchase the Nikon D5100 body only instead of getting it with the kit lense, instead I opted for the 50mm f/1.8D Nikon lense to learn on. I plan to purchase more lenses as needed but for now I wanted something basic while I learn. I also purchased an SD card and camera case. These four items will be what I'm going to be practicing with. Please bear with me :) I will try to post photos often but keep in mind that I didn't purchase any photo editing software yet because I want to see how much I can do with the camera and what little bit I have on my computer.
I will update when my camera gets here and hopefully I'll get a chance to practice in between my job and my kids' busy lives.
